So I just installed this:
My ambient temp is sitting between 85F-90F and my browser -only temps read at roughly 40C on die. Under a test load where it would normally spike to 80C-85C with the stock cooler, this config stayed about 15C-20C cooler. I finally used my pre-purchased silicon this time, but Cooler Master gives you some just in case.
The installation, however, was a tad unnerving as I wasn't expecting things like the mounting not to stay relatively still until fully screwed in or the whole assembly being able to shift (minutely) when touched even After completion. I spent more time (probably 3+ min/screw) trying to get the spring mount screws to align with the holes as they do Not stay in place after you slide them to the right notch. The best thing overall was that the instructions were mostly clear, but it didn't hurt to read them half a dozen times just to make sure. They included everything I needed for the installation along with the socket 2011 (if needed) and the mounting clips and pads for a secondary fan. That last part was helpful as I did just that. The only thing extra I had to buy, besides the 2nd fan, was the y-cable, but that was kind of required in this installation.
I'm not sure why I expected the system to run closer to 30C, but seeing the 'under load' temp stay stable was comforting.
Side Q: I did go back through and change one or two settings in the UEFI (now that I know a little more about it), but is there anything for my configuration that you think I should change in the UEFI?
