Connecting to ipmi gui asus wrx80e sage wifi

I’m trying to control the fan speeds on my asus wrx80e motherboard, so I have to connect to the web interface since this is not a normal mobo.

Following the thread “how does one control fan speed on asus pro ws wrx80e-sage se wifi” (I can’t post links) I have set the static IP through the pc bios, and also set the static IP on my laptop. When I try to connect, the connection will just time out after about a minute. I can hear my pc go under load momentarily when I first connect, and also the BMC light is on. Additionally, if I connect to a random ip address it just instantly fails with a different error message with no wait. All this indicates to me that the ip address is set up but there’s some other problem. I’ve tried being directly wired to the pc and also connected through my router.

I changed from static IP to dynamic DHCP. Then I log into my router, you can see the desktop itself and the ipmi server have different IP address. Conecting to the ipmi one works now.
