Concerned about thermal paste on motherboard

Alright I haven't put any power through it, I don't even have my psu yet lol but basicly I can't remember how I got the paste on here, but should I clean it off? Is it that much of a problem because I don't have any of the alcohol cleaner stuff around.

Sorry for bad quality pic, but you can see the greyish mark next to the bar that you push down to lock the CPU in place.

Oh yeah, the paste is the stuff that comes pre applied to the CPU fan with the Phenom.

If I should clean it off, what is the alcohol stuff I should get I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for.

Thanks.

It depends on what kind of thermal paste you're using. Most pastes are non-conductive, so it probably isn't a problem. A lot of people still use Arctic Silver 5 for some reason though, which is conductive. I would still get rid of it either way. Just go out and buy some 98% isopropanol rubbing alocohol and you'll be fine.

Dude, one word of advice. Better be safe than sorry. Get some of the alcohol that Vortex88 mentioned and clean that thing thoroughly. Let it dry, which should take only seconds since it´s highly concentrated alcohol and good luck to you and your build. ;)

I am using Nexus TMP-1000 thermal paste. Is that even good? I bought it when I was a noob concerning computer hardware. Gotta do some research on good thermal paste. ^^

Alright thanks, I'll buy some when I get the chance, what should I use to clean it off, are there special cloths I can buy or just an normal cloth will do?

Q-tips maybe? Those stains of thermal paste aren´t huge anyways and you don´t want to bent any capacitors etc. .

I wouldn't buy a lint free cloth, use a normal cloth, or use papertowels. Coffee filters will do the job nicely and not leave lint.

I just use a normal cloth, but others like to use micro fiber cloths so they don't leave lint behind.

I've never heard of that paste before. The best stuff on the market right now is Arctic Cooling MX-4.
