Computer-Related Certifications

Hey Guys, i saw a recent INBOX.EXE where you discussed "What field of Computer Science is best to go to" . thanks for that!

my question is a bit different...I work in a computer retail store @ the moment (technician) and have the ability to get certifications of my choice, that will be paid for by my employer if i pass. what personally would you choose to certify yourself with, if you had this opportunity? at this point i'm pretty lost as to what i actually want to do in the field so thought i'd spend some time getting some certifications which i assume will be helpful wherever i choose to go.

thanks for your time guys! have a nice day

My father is not in a tech related field, but he says that unless you have 20+ years of experience in your field you should try to get as many certifications as you can for free or cheap.

Well there are two sides of job seeking. The commercial side and the government side. On the Commercial side its really based on performance of the person. Say your a Healthcare company all you care about is getting the computer systems up. So really any person with networking know how is fine. Now the government on the other hand is another monster. For most of the government work they require you have all your Comptia Net+ Sec+ , Redhat basic, CCNA,CISSP. So if you end up trying to work in a company which has government contracts. Say Tek Systems they may require you to have the same certs.

So heres my other thought John are you looking for a specific job? Do you have recruiters for those jobs which you can call up directly? If you dont then you can ask me or even cold calling the employers and talking directly to the recruiters. Devloping your Linkedin and collecting recruiters. The only way these days you will obtain a decent position is by networking gathering program manager and recruiter information. Then contacting those people directly.
