Hey there, currently overseas, haven't touched my computer because I didn't bring it over but I would like to upgrade the GPU.
Specs: AMD FX-4130 AS Rock 960GM/US3 Sapphire HD 7770 GHZ Edition 8 GB RAM 600W Power Supply.
Apologies, I can't remember specifics on the last two, but the quick and short version is, I play a lot of Dota 2 and I occasionally play BF4 (With struggles). I have a lot of gaming to catch up on and I'll be sinking my time a lot into Fallout 4 when I get back. Budget wise I don't want to push more than 300$ for a card if I can help it, but I'll take recommendations of anything outside of that price range. I just wanna be able to have a list of where to go from here instead of just looking at stuff awkwardly in the store.
Ideally I wanna future proof the rig, but y'know. Money. Hope that's enough info thanks!
I'd recommend a GTX 960 or 970 if you can swing a little extra. I like the EVGA models because their warranty allows you to remove the cooler to reapply thermal paste or slap on a waterblock.
My brother just picked up a GTX960 and is loving the Fallout 4
For about the same price of a GTX 960 you can pick up a 380X that just launched. I would recommend the Sapphire 380X variant or the Gigabyte 380X variant. Just two more options for you to consider. EDIT: I see that you are currently in Japan, if you are paying for the electricity, you are going to want to get the 960 since it will use less watts, if not, then just grab what ever is cheaper in local stores or on websites.
Electricity isn't as big of a deal because I'm home in March I just wanna see prices and see what it is over here. Home is Sydney so you can probably understand why I'm going to try and buy stuff over here instead. I'll have a look next time I'm at the shops!
Though this next bit is going to sound silly, I wouldn't need to change my Power Supply right?
GTX 960 or R9 380, whatever is on sale with a good deal, If you want the latests assiean creed there is a special with the game for free, I have seen refurbished gtx 770's reference cards refurb for 179. Just curious, you thinking of upgrade the gpu then later drop a hundred dollar 8 core in?
When I start actually seeing an issue with my needs I might think about it, but right now it's not really high on my priority list. I just wanna be able to play games without my computer whining as much. I'll have a lot of photo and video to process when I get home so we'll see how it goes, but I think the GPU is the only thing I'm really gunning for.
