I think everyone should be required to take classes in highschool that teach you how to build computers, use them and know alot more about windows, linux, osx, or any operating system that is mainly used. Make them learn so they know alot more then the average person. I just feel as if my generation is filled with a bunch of dumbass's that dont know why their computers are filled with a shit ton of toolbars and adware and half of them probably dont even know how to install windows or fix a simple issue. Also make the class teach them the basic scams that are all over the internet. I help teachers with their computers and fix kids computers and it just seems like all of the things they need help with is simple knowledge and they think you need to be a "computer genius" to do what I do. Thats my rant on people and computers.
And what do we cut to make room for this, science, maths, languages, physical education, art, English, Humanities?
But its those idiots who keep people like us in jobs......... to fix what they F**k up and to install and manage what they dont understand.
I had a keyboarding class in middle school...
Me and my friend Luke hacked into the school's mainframe and could shut down or take over any computer in the school... It was so funny doing that to kids. Not the teachers though, we made them off-limits.
At the very least we need a class to Teach Student how to use word and excel properly
In the UK that exists in comprehensive and it is manadatory until GCSE level. So from ages roughly 12-15.
yes. we cut everything...........
hahahahaha.
Yes but i live AUS...
I second this post. I am annoyed a bit when I show my friends that I can use 3 computers at once via SSH(I was feeling awesome at the time so thats how they found out). Now all I hear is, "Hey can you come hack my computer?" and all this stuff about hacking. What they actually mean is cracking. Granted, I am not that educated in the computer field(Which yall probably guessed by my 2 posts a day, sorry about those by the way) but I definitly know more than the average citizen.
yes the good ole "YOUR LIKE THE BEST COMPUTER HACKER" even though all you do is fix computers and use them as a hobby. i hate the word hacking. i just want to punch somebody in the face if they say it.
Mmm... nor am i "educated" as such when it comes to computing but the funny thing is my school hired me to do the tech work for them
I call bullshit on your middle school having a mainframe computer.
What would a middle school need one for?
I recently(by recently I mean earlier tonight) learned what the word hacker actually means. I realized how wrong I was and how wrong others were when they used the word hacker. Theres always a second side but being a hacker is really cool it seems. I may never not get annoyed when average people say hacker again...Oh well. I will educate them:) One less person using it wrong ya know.
The tech guy at my school is fascinated that I have a natural obsession with computers. He even had me somewhat-beta-test a new ebook check out system that the school was using. He is much more educated than me but he isnt one of those"Oh I am only doing those because its the only job I could get" people. He actually enjoys being the school tech guy. Which takes a lot of guts because, lets be honest, most of the teachers and students dont have any clue how to use a computer. Its astonishing how many people have trouble connecting to wifi...
Well in all respect to Woz... but he is a Hacker, Now how may people would see him in that light?
Well its more of an issue of the context that hacker has. The only people who know what a hacker is, are hackers. Its all about context it seems.
How fucking True that is... Staff Member = "I cant access anything" cry wing wing cry
Tech Guy - "Is you Wireless Switch on?"
Staff Member - "... ... ... no" exit stage left
hahahahahahaha. Its funny cause its true. I am not trying to claim that I know everything, I obviously dont, by the way.
I can see this as an elective subject. Not mandatory.
Or even an added unit within an already existing subject, like IST.
I would've selected it if it were an option when I went through school.
