Components for my pc

Hi guys and girls,

I'm looking to build my own pc. I've did it once before five years ago and it really needs a replacement.

I play a lot of games. All kind of genres. I used to be able to run all the newest games smooth on max settings. And that's what i'm looking for to be able to do again. I'm really uncertain about intel or amd could you guys give me some advise.

I already have a power suply, a case, display, keyboard and mouse. The power supply is a 700 watt Coolermaster Silent Pro. My case is a aerocool vx-9 pro.

The build that i was thinking of. This is around my max budget. Do you guys have any comments on this?

Is it a good build. Would you do anything different and why?

Greetings,

You are going to want a Hard Drive

Forgot to mention I already have a 1tb hard drive :)

Overall it's decent, but a couple things should be changed:

  • I'm not sure an i7-4770K is needed if you're just gaming. An i5-4690K should be plenty sufficient and is about £50 cheaper.
  • A decent air cooler will perform just as good if not better than a single 120mm AIO solution.
  • The B85 boards typically aren't designed for overclocking and -K processors. They'll work, but if you'll run into issues if you want to fiddle with it down the road.
  • AMD solid state drives aren't worth it. Overpriced for what you get.

So here's what I do:

  • Changed to an i5-4690K. There's still room in the budget for an i7 if you want to go that route.
  • Changed to a good air cooler. If the case has enough room there are even better units out there (Noctua NH-D15, Phanteks PH-TC14PE, be quiet Dark Rock Pro 3, Akasa Venom Medusa, Thermaltake Silver Arrow, etc.)
  • Z97 board so you can overclock if desired.
  • RAM I just switched to a brand I prefer, but either will work perfectly fine.
  • SSD to one with a larger capacity for similar price.

Overall though it really comes down to what you prefer. The build in the OP will work fine, but you can save some money and still get something sufficient.

@Wiemerimer

I think that everything's perfect other than the Crucial MX100. If I'm not mistaken, it does not have the highest sequential write speed for the 256 GB model. (330 MB/sec). The only thing I'd change about that build is the SSD. For me, if I had the money, I'd always go with an Intel SSD or Kingston HyperX 3K. :)

Other than that I'd probably do the exact same thing as you did, maybe change the cooler to a slightly better Noctua one. (such as the D15)

Edit: @Wiemerimer at least check whether the product is available in stock on the website. Lol I clicked on the RAM (coincidence) and it was £80+ on Amazon while only £60+ on Ebuyer. I clicked on the Ebuyer website wondering why I didn't purchase this to realise it was out of stock, lol.
