So I recently managed to snag a Visiontek Fury X for $600 canadian dollars, thinking this would be a stellar upgrade from my 970 to go with my 4k monitor right?
NOPE NOPE NOPE, this card is complete garbage, in games it barely out performs my 970 (metro 2033 redux, dota2, civ5), is loud as hell and the stuttering oh god please help me.
I have done a complete uninstall of the drivers and related materials, and done a fresh install of the AMD drivers, is their anything I could do to stop this god awful performance and stuttering? at least enough so I can justify dealing with the noise?
While that's all annoying I'm sure, it doesn't appear as though your game selection NEEDED a better GPU, and certainly wouldn't be built to take advantage of said better GPU.
The problem appears to lie between the chair and the keyboard.
I know this is stupid obvious and you have probably already done so but have you been monitoring gpu temp, gpu usage and cpu usage while gaming especially when it starts to stutter to get a more complete picture of what might be off.
and according to this benchmark the Fury X in Civ Beyond Earth which is civ V gets over 60fps at 4k, it's faster than a 980 naturally, so clearly there's going to end up being something wrong with his card or set up
ya i missed that :( I say all the temp monitoring / What OS / clean driver install With DDU. I have had to config a profile in crimson and in game for every one games that i play since i got my fury.
From what I've seen, switching from green to red is a real pain in the ass (thank you very much Nvidia) so that people who aren't fully determined to delve in deep to root out the problem just give up and go back to Nvidia.
Seems a bit harsh... Fury X is a great card. Just pit it against your 970 in a dx12 title at 4k and see what happens. Now, you got the card for 600CAD?? If that is a new card I will be flabbergasted. Could you tell us if it's New, Used, or Refurbished because if it's not new that could potentially be the root of the problem.
I suggest giving us your system specs, CPU&GPU temps while gaming and turning of Gameworks crap.
This. A 2010, 2013, and 2014 title. These games are running on older APIs. Once you get a real dx12 title I can almost guarantee that your FuryX will blow a 970 out of the water. (especially when the new cards get launched TOMORROW). Why didn't you just wait a bit to upgrade?
I'm going to do a fresh windows install and see if that fixes anything, but the card is performing very oddly, and the pumpwhine is also kinda annoying.
@Fourquin part of why I got this card is so I could play more demanding games at 4k.
If you decide to RMA it, don't take VTX3D or whatever... EDIT: What i ment is: There is a reason, why Sapphire, Asus, Gigabyte and MSI are as popular as they are in GPU world...
Someone done guffed something up. Part of your problem is that you're complaining about performance differences in games that can be played at 4K60 on a 7970. Once you start moving to more demanding games, you'll notice the difference instantly. The Fury X should easily be enough to destroy the 970 in everything. The other problem is that you got it for $600 CAD. Which seems to indicate something because that's waaaaayyy marked down. Was the previous owner mining coins on it? (for some stupid reason...?)
I have an R9 Nano, and that thing is a far more impressive beast than you're making its big brother out to be.
