Comcast wireless?

Not sure what the point of doing this for Comcast is but..

Only available to customer of xfinity internet. And used GSM technology from the looks of it. Can't see how this is meaningful or worthwhile at all.

Whenever possible, Xfinity Mobile will tap Comcast’s more than 16 million Wi-Fi hotspots. Service will be supplemented by cellular network coverage supplied by Verizon Wireless, which entered a so-called MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) partnership with Comcast that dates back about to 2011. Though Comcast is open about this relationship, the Verizon brand is not part of the direct pitch to consumers, with Comcast only saying it uses the “most reliable 4G LTE network.”

Looks like this will actually use Verizon 4G LTE, interesting. I wonder how well comcast will be able to actually obtain customers, seeing as they're brand is viewed so poorly. A lot of people only have comcast because its their only option, so I don't think their brand will carry them that far in a market where there is legitimately a lot of competition.

That using Wi-Fi hotspots bit sounds like a security disaster. Or hacking dream.

But how many areas of the country is this even worth considering? It doesn't cover New York or LA. Both major cities where it would probably be the most useful.

They do have the advantage of being able to do bundle pricing for people with multiple comcast services. If you have comcast internet and tv, maybe they'll offer severely discounted wireless service? That could tempt some people on value propositions.
