Our TV signal was cut suddenly and without warning. My mother called customer service; they said that it's because of a new law that requires everyone to have a cable box to connect their cable outlets to their TV in order to descramble the signal? Sounds like some BS to me. They weren't even telling us whether it was a local, state, or federal law.
I believe that has something to do with people mooching off of others' services with or without consent. I guess one could call it,
"Anti-Piracy: TV Edition"
^what he said
they are trying to stop people from getting free cable by signal splitting/tapping and at the same time force more unnecessary consumer junk on the populus
Cant you get that TV streaming program? Cant remember the name but I know its free, someone had about 500 channels using it with an antenna. Only lead I have. (its layout is blue-ish with channel selection on the right)
they already do that in canada, thankfully there's nothing good on so that service was canceled long long ago
I sort of understand their case, but it kinda blows that we have to pay extra for something that was just an extra option not too long ago. We originally got rid of our box to save money, because we didn't need all the extra crap channels. I think we should just cancel our TV service altogether, There really isn't much point to it anymore.
If you complain about their questionable services and/or threaten to remove yourselves from their services entirely, I'm sure they'll provide the box(es) for free. If not, then go through with your cancellation. Don't be afraid to put your foot down and show them you're the consumer who dictates how much they're paid a year.
Hang on. If I understand this correctly, you do not have the little black boxes from Comcast.
If that is the case, I can't believe that you were still getting that basic analog signal. Anyways, with the U.S mandate, it required providers to switch from analog to digital. The way Comcast does it is by sending all their content digitally and the box on your end gives you access to what "tier" you are paying for. Comcast should give you at least two free boxes, at least a they did a few years ago.
Again, if that is the case, wow.
