College Update Build

So I posted this last night and the post has disappeared now that the site is back up so I guess there were some problems.

I am a college student and build my current computer a couple of years ago. This ( http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Pn6Yf7 ) is as close to my current build as I could make it. PCPartPicker didn't have my motherboard (Asus P8Z68-V/GEN3 - http://goo.gl/SZv3AP ) so I didn't include it. The CPU is running way hot, around 45 degrees at idle and that is causing some serious instability issues. I have tried reseating it multiple times and tried again last night using the two line method as opposed to the pea method and unfortunately that did not help at all.

So, I have put together a couple different options for builds that I would love some feedback on. Both of these are going to use RAM I already have and my current GPU.

Option #1: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/cz6kqs This one is an Intel based build. This would use a two stick 8GB kit of RAM that I have.

Option #2: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/jmDBFT This is an AMD based build. I would use the 16GB kit I have in my current build for this one if I were to go with it.

I would turn the remains of my current build into a media server which is something I have wanted to do for a long time.

My use case is a small amount of gaming, moderate photo editing, and a lot of 3D design with VectorWorks Spotlight.

Thanks in advance! If anything is confusing please ask, this situation is a bit unusual.

If your CPU is overheating, check the fan on the hyper 212. My fan wore out after 1.5 years or so and wouldnt ramp up to full speed. If its not the fan, the 3770k does have a 3 year limited warranty from intel that you might want to look into (just so it doesnt die in your media pc)

In terms of upgrading both of those lists look pretty solid. Im not really sure which CPU would outperform in 3D design but I would warn you to avoid the Corsair CX line of power supplies as they have been known to be somewhat flaky build quality and alot of people complain about bad coil whine. Im assuming that 500w psu is needed for the media pc? are you going to reuse the RM850 for your main rig? If so 500w probably way overkill for a media pc, and also you'll need some new ram as well if you are using the 16GB you have already in your main rig
