So this happened back in august and has since been resolved but just thought I would share since I found it amusing and learned what a DoS attack was from this. Also would like to ask how would you guys go about fixing a problem like this if you were apart of the IT staff
Students,
Last week the District’s technology infrastructure was hit by a series of sophisticated attacks which targeted both the portal and administrative system. The initial Denial of Service (DoS) attack was severe enough to necessitate that our emergency shutdown protocol be invoked. The good news is that no transactional data was corrupted or lost and no database files or accounts were breached. The less than good news is that this emergency shutdown resulted in both hardware failure and operating software corruption. Computer systems do not like “hard” stops. These issues forced IT to fail-over these servers, storage devices, and interfaces to our redundant disaster recovery site. This is not an easy or enjoyable experience but it was accomplished without incident by the end-of-day Friday. Since that time, all systems have been stabilized and have been behaving appropriately.
