I bought a 500gb HDD off my friend and when I installed in my computer and turn it on it says its loading windows to a new computer or something like that. And then I get an error, saying I should contact HP and blah blah. And at the end it says Code Purple. And from my knowledge Code Purple is normally because the OS was tattooed to the previous motherboard and it won't let you use it on a different one. How do I fix this?
i am not completely sure how to fix this, but have you tried to reformat the drive?
Boot from your windows disk and delete all of the partitions (that you want to at least), form a new one and install on that. Your friend probably cleared it off to factory defaults so you wouldn't get his data but didn't realize that HP embedded the license.
