i have an old 500gb wd scorpio blue 2.5" drive that was in a macbook and was running linux ubuntu. i want to clear it out and use it to back up my windows pc. i have purchased an enclosure so i can plug it into my usb 3 port. what is the best way to clear my hard drive and ready it for becoming my backup disk?
Plug it in and when it appears on My Computer (I say my computer, it's just 'Computer' now), right click on it and click format. Then set it to the max capacity, NTFS, tick Quick Format and the default allocation size and name it however you want!
Use some partition software like easeus or gparted and delete all the partitions. Then all you have to do is make an NTFS partiton from the unallocated space
If you're on windows 7 go to the search bar in the start menu and type in partition. You should see create and format hard disk partitions. In windows 8 press 'windows key+R' and type in diskmgmt.msc Can you see it there?
