Cisco picking up AMD Epyc for UCS

Huge news for anyone upgrading their chassis anytime soon (i.e. my organization.) I’m pretty pumped that when we go EOL next year we’ll have an option to pick up an AMD system with full full NVME clusters.

Am I misunderstanding this article?

Looks like AMD hired someone, based on this:

AMD’s push into servers has accelerated just a little after the chip-designer wooed Cisco’s chief technology officer for UCS servers to join its ranks

Unless I’m missing something here.

TR has considerably more real world memory bandwidth than i9 as well. Interestingly

We’re currently on sandy bridge era xeons in our system, using same era SAS SSD drives. The upgrade to AMD + NVME storage would mean we could probably keep our same load on almost half of the hardware. I’m looking forward to seeing how well this scales in the real world.

@SgtAwesomesauce – No. They’re just saying that AMD is pushing back into the server market and Cisco wanted to see what they’ve got going on.

Ah, okay.

Probably less, but hell, if you’re able to afford it, expand your capacity so you’ve got breathing room.
