Cisco, Microsoft, VMware, and others joining open-source hands

The project is called Core Infrastructure Initiative, being led by the Linux Foundation, and includes Amazon Web Services, Cisco, Dell, Facebook, Fujitsu, Google, IBM, Intel, Microsoft, NetApp, RackSpace, and VMware. The recent OpenSSL vulnerability called these tech giants together to help develop and fund "mission-critical" open-source projects, the first one on the list being OpenSSL.

"Maintaining the health of the community projects that produce software critical to the security and safety of Internet commerce is in everyone's interest"

Some hope for the future of the internet has been restored.
