Chromecast VS Amazon Fire Stick VS Other

I have been using a Chromecast in my living room for about 4 months and it works great. Now I need a second streaming media player and am wondering if I should try something different. My wife and I decided to get a TV for the bedroom and moved the Chromecast to that TV so I need to replace the streaming media player in the living room. I am looking at the Amazon Fire Stick or Fire TV for the ability to stream Amazon Instant Video since I have a Prime account but have seen this can also be done on the Roku. What devices do you guys use and is there one I am not considering that I should?

Ok, I may go with the Roku for the remote, ability to stream Amazon Instant Video and additional features it provides.

Having used all three, (well the Roku was not the Roku stick but the Roku 3), I would highly recommend the Roku.

I've had a Chromecast for long while now and still love it because it is simple and quick, though queuing things with multiple devices sometimes doesn't quite work so well. The FireTV stick, which Amazon claims is faster than the Chromecast often feels very slow to change between apps, which are stored on the device and is probably the reason for that. The Roku 3 works similarly to the FireTV with apps being on the device and having a remote, (this remote is better because you can plug headphones into it), but works so much faster. The only downside to the Roku is the somewhat limited number of apps, but when it comes to playing your own media, you can send music and photos to it right through the Roku app on your phone, and there are also plenty of ports on it. You can play games on the FireTV and Roku, but I have no idea why one would.

Roku for me it is nice and independent from everyone. It doesn't have iTunes, but who cares it has everything else.

The remote and interface  alone are reason enough

For me it would have to be the firestick. I have a few roku devices as well. But the flexibility of the android device makes it better imo. You can side load apps like Kodi on the firestick and change the interface with default amazon interface with something like firestarter. You don't even have to root the device or have any real technical knowledge.

The only thing I noticed with both devices, is that they are very sensitive to poor wifi. You will get hiccups and stuttering at times (I would suggest using 5Ghz)

Kodi or VLC support is reason enough to go for the fire stick! :D

Feel free to start a new topic. But this ones a year old....
