Christmas Build 700 dollar max

I really liked the idea of a water cooled CPU

I will be gaming mostly all the new titles at 1080p

I have a hardrive laying around

ANY SUGGESTIONS???

It looks good to me but if you drop the water cooling then you could get a higher capacity ssd or a better cpu.

I agree with Teebler. Or you can drop $10-15 more and get the FX 6300 which will be much better or get the FX4300 its the same price as the 4170.

Should I get the FX 6300 with an aftermarket air cooler such as the 212 or 212 evo?

I looked up the benchmarks and It is comparable to (But a little bit better than) The intel i5-2300 at a cheaper price so that looks like a good deal. And the Cooler you mentioned looks alright aswell.

Ok Thank you for replying, Is the graphics card sufficent?

Yeah.

bf3 1080p max?

Yes, I frequently recommend the 212+/EVO with the FX6300, should be able to OC that to 4.6-4.8GHz giving you a fairly big boost in power. Will beat out anything else in this price point, if you were to spend more on it, which you obviously shouldn't at your price point, the next up would be the i5 2500k/3570k.

I'd think so? HD 6870 almost can and its a decent bit better than the 6870.

I think you can add a 7870 instead to that build. If you really want a liquid cooling solution, consider the Antec Kuhler H2O 620. Depending on where you look, they can be had for as low as $40. As for the 7870, it only costs as low as $207, so I think it could fit in your $700 max budget. Also, swap out that 4170 for a 4300/ 6300. They're way better options.

Fixed it up, I was just wondering, how much of an oc can I get of to the fx processor?

I'd recommend doing this:

  • Keeps you well under your limit (you could swap the HD7850 for and HD7870 and be around $700), the FX6300 is only $10 and is well worth the extra 2 cores.
  • Left the case + PSU since its good and I assume you like it.
  • Swapped out the memory cheaper memory of the same speed.
  • The SSD you selected used SATA II which would severly gimp your transfer rates, swapped it for a bigger and faster SSD for $10 more.
  • If you want to OC you want this mobo, has heat sinked mosfets and 8+2 phase count will help a good bit with the OC.
  • Swapped the water cooler for a 212+, its half the price and similar performance. You could still get the water cooler but you have to know its gonna gimp your build.
  • Same GPU

With this board, you could be able to get between 4.6GHz - 4.9GHz overclock on that chip.

I know this is a stupid thing for me to say, but how loud would it be? Personally I like quiet systems and that why I chose water cooling but If the air fan isnt loud I will go fo r it.

Hmm, whats going to be loud is 120mm fans, if sound is an issue, there are two ways you could go with this.

  1. You could fill the computer with 120mm fans, 2 on the CPU cooler, and however many in the case. Then get a front panel fan controller, plugging all the fans into it (you'll need to change the BIOS settings to allow you to not plug the CPU fans into board's cpu fan pins), then set all the fans to about 40%, all those fans will be pretty much silent at that speed. The graphics card would still be loud so you may want to set that manually as well. Make sure to keep an eye on your temperatures if you do this. When doing heavy loads, you may want to pump up the fans on the CPU and GPU a bit higher to keep em cool. or
  2. You could replace all the fans with "silent" fans, you'll have to drop a few $ on these fans but they will push a good amount of air and be fairly quiet.

The "water cooling" cpu coolers still have standard 120mm fans on them, and those are going to be what makes noise. Also, your PSU is gonna make some noise, not much you can do about that.

Ok but what brand of fans would you recommend. Personally i like the corsair ones as well as the nzxt fans any other opinions on te matter?

If you were to go with the fan controller method, I generally go with Cooler Master fans simply because they are good quality and cheap, since you want several and run them low this would be the most sensible way to do it, as a side note NZXT makes some solid fan controllers.

If you were to go with the silent fan method, generally I think corsair makes some solid silent fans, but they are gonna cost you like $35 for two fans, so the price is going to spike quickly. You can ask around about silent fans, others might have more experience with them since this isn't the method I usually go with.

get the 4300 if you want the quad core and yes drop the water cooled and get the coolermaster hyper 212 evo otherwise great build
