Choppy game play, help me solve this issue?(not solved yet)

If this is in the wrong thread I apologize I try to abide by the rules but its a weird topic and I'm not sure ware it should go. thanks!

My system:

processor: AMD FX 8150

motherboard: Asrock 990fx Extreme 4

graphics card: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7870

ram: 16GB corsair Vengeance

power supply: Corsair TX750m

cpu heat-sink: Nactula  NH-D14

case: Corsair C70

OS: win 8

Now for my problem. For the past 3-4 months I have noticed a slight "frame skipping" effect when playing video games like bf3, blops2, dayz, etc etc. I'm getting this weird "micro-stutter" that I seem to notice and is making things unplayable. I feel like my computer should be able to play bf3 on ultra with no hicups at all? Also I have started to get BSODs when I leave and come back to my computer after it has went into standby mode or what i presume to be standby mode (sleep?) and when i wake it up it BSODs. This also happens rarely when I start up a game and turn on the computer.

my question to you guys is.

1. what do you think the problem is? (my graphics card? my cpu? my psu? maybe my motherboard was damaged from PREVIOUS overclocking with a different cpu?)

2. what can I do to TEST my hardware to see if there are any errors?

First thing is to check temps of the GPU, CPU and RAM. If they are ok, then find out what is causing the BSOD, it will be in the the blue screen error message.

ah, maybe turn off the sleep, standby mode . Its known to cause problems. Either on or off. Use the lockscreen if your worried about security. OH and turn your graphic cards settings down alittle a 7870 will not play everything at ultra.

I use win+L whenever i leave my computer untended but it seems to do this every time regardless if i have it set to sleep or not. and i tried looking up some of the codes but i forgot what they are and i dont know ware to find them any more.

also the choppy gameplay still happens when i play bf3, blops, and everything on low. and the temps are checking out ok as well.

Turn on v sync possibly?

Might try some system maintenance, upgrade drivers. A all in one tool like microsoft essentials or advanced system care is a great time saver. Scan for malaware, viruses. Without the error codes its hard diagnose your system so it forces you to start with the basics. There are so many things that could possibly be wrong even something like a power supply going bad. You have to start somewhere and eliminate some variables.

Forcing that and triple buffering should fix micro stutter in full screen mode. If you insist on borderless window then. :( New 13.10 drivers seem pretty amazing so far though. :D

I think its smoothed up some stuff for me on my single gpu . So ya, i am looking forward to crossing my card.

I have ran driver sweeper and installed the latest beta drivers. turning on sync just make everything respond REALLY slow. and I see no difference with with triple buffering. and I run them all in full screen mode. I will try adv system care and see if anything helps. I used malware bytes to check for malware and got nothing. you really think unclean power could be causing it? hmm I'll run adv system care and report back. any other help is appreciated! just any ideas as to what it could be is helpful!

I also want to mention that I have re installed windows 8 about a month ago and the problem is still occurring. that is what leads me to think it is hardware. but I could be wrong, eh?

nothing helped. i still have the issue.

Try the next  basic thing. Turn off your computer, touch your power supply and pull your graphics card and reseat it. Try another pcie slot if you have another one just for test. While your are there go through every connection and make sure everything is connected correctly and firmly. For another test try using a different graphics card and see if the same problem exists. Same thing with the power supply.

If only i could get my hands on another gpu and psu ? I will see what i can conjure up.! thank you everyone for you help and i will report back tomorrow. 2:30 and my eyes are just not holding up like they were a few hours ago haha.

Make sure your board Bios is updated. But really  catch the bsod and get the error code and save some time.
