Choosing RAM

I'm going to get rid of some old RAM soon and give it to a friend who is doing his first budget build. I'm planning on buying some new RAM for myself (8GB to be exact).


RAM is definitely my weakest subject in general hardware, so I have no idea what to look for apart from it being DDR3 and the base clock. What else should I be looking at specifically in RAM?

Lowest voltage for the highest frequency and lowest CL possible. I like 1866mHz Cl9 1.5V as a standard, but love 1600mHz CL6 1.35V stuff. 2133mHz, CL9 max, 2400mHz, CL10 max; don't go faster.
