Choosing a Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060

I am upgrading from a MSI R9 390, and I've decided to get a 1060 when their prices go down. I've narrowed it down to the EVGA 1060 Superclocked https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-Perfect-Graphics-06G-P4-6163-KR/dp/B01IPVSLTC/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1471379447&sr=1-3&keywords=gtx+1060&refinements=p_n_feature_four_browse-bin%3A6066317011 (Single-fan) and the ASUS ROG STRiX https://www.amazon.com/GeForce-STRIX-Ready-Graphic-STRIX-GTX1060-O6G-GAMING/dp/B01IPVSG4C/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1471330242&sr=1-3&keywords=gtx%2B1060&refinements=p_36%3A20000-33000 (Triple-Fans)

What I am looking for in a new GPU is the 0db mode where the fans kick off like the MSI R9 390 did but I also want something quiet and cool. I'm conflicted on which card to get because the Asus card has 3 fans that I could turn down low and a backplate, but I worry about gpu sag and an msrp of 330 USD. I would get the EVGA card because it has a good price of 260 USD, but I worry that it can get noisy with 1 fan and I won't have much OC headroom; also it doesn't have a backplate.

If anyone can help sway me on which one would be better I would be grateful.

The Gtx 1060 will be a slight performance downgrade from your R9 390 if not equal in performance, your best waiting and saving for a faster card if you need more performance. A 1070, Fury X, or 1080 would all bring you better performance but the RX 480 and Gtx 1060 are going to be right there tied in terms of performance with your current R9 390.

If you want to move away from the R9 390 for reasons other than performance, the Gtx 1060 and RX 480 are both good cards. If you want a 1060, both Evga and Asus have great cards. Both will perform within a couple percentage of each other. This is more down to silicon lottery over manufacture with the 1060, as both cards are going to boost far beyond where the spec sheet says they will, and the only thing that will limit how far they go is going to be how good of a gpu core you got out of the silicon lottery.

You're wasting your time and money by swapping to a GTX 1060. You'd be better off with a GTX 1070.

Is your 390 really holding you back enough to upgrade? If yes, the 1060 wont alleviate much of anything...

Go with a 1070 or a second hand 980ti with a heavy overclock.

Thank you all, I decided to move away from the 390 not because I needed more performance, but I wanted something that runs much cooler and quieter. I don't need 1070 kind of performance just something with a lower tdp and noise. Also I was wondering if anyone has experience with the evga gtx 1060 single fan card because I think I might be able to use it for a smaller build in the future.

JayzTwoCents compared that exact 1060 against the 480, I think that would help you learn some about both the 1060 and the RX 480 which is a very viable alternative :3
