Choosing a Gaming Monitor

Hey,

I was planning on buying a new gaming monitor. I currently have a shitty acer v223w and need an upgrade ASAP. This is my build:

Case:Corsair 760T
CPU:Intel i7 4790k
MoBo: Asus z97 mark S
GPU: EVGA Geforce GTX 980 Classified
PSU: Corsair RM650
RAM: 2x4gb Corsair Vengeance
HDD: 3TB WD Black
SDD: Samsung 850 Pro 256gb
Cooler: Corsair h100i GTX

My budget is $500. I'm not too familiar with what to look for in monitors, but 144hz and 1ms response time would be nice. My gpu also supports g-sync so that's a plus as well.

Thanks for your help!

I'd go for free-sync over G-sync, nvidia may move adaptive sync support from mobile to the desktop at some point, or someone will hack the drivers so their cards work with free-sync

Otherwise I'd go for 4k over high refresh rate, though the Wasabi Mango monitor can run 120Hz 1080p, I think it starts at 700 though

You should just grab that all metal 4k display Wendell reviewed recently, or the wasabi mango, that seems to be the best of the bunch but it starts at $700

Assuming you have room for a 40" display

I am sorry you are stuck to proprietary hardware and software...

You welcome.

The good: A 27 inch 2560x1440 IPS monitor from Asus LG Dell or Samsung.
The bad: 1080p or 4k. Avoid 1ms TN panels. Cheap = Cheap. I avoid Acer/BenQ.
Bonus points for any dynamic sync that you can use such as GSync.

Why not 4K? 4K will be tough to push modern/upcoming games at ultra settings.

Something like this:

Most talked about monitors here

No Open Box for me, bad experiences doing that

In that case GSync is not an option...
