Hello everyone. I pretty much build my PC so sorry in advance for those ready with advice on parts. The last thing i need to replace is my monitor (an old 1280x1024 dell monitor).
I would like some advice in general but i am genuanly interested in opinions from Wendel, Logan, Pistol and anyone working as a programmer/game developer and a hardcore gamer (as in plays lot's of games with any mods available).
Currently i narrowed it down to either getting one of the new Samsung 4k monitor (i know it's tn but compared to what i have it will be a huge upgrade nonetheless) or work on getting 3 1440p Shimian monitors.
I would like to also know are the Shimians good quality? (never bought any of those korean monitors) How are they for triple gaming monitors? The bezels i see are those fake thin black glass bezels. Are they too distracting when gaming or watching a movie?
How does the screen space compare between the 4k and 3 1440p?
Does anyone have a better solution for both gaming and productivity?
PS: i realize gaming on 4k or 3x1440p is nigh impossible but i don't plan on changing the displays for at least 6 years (unless of course something revolutionary comes out like holo decks or something).
That's a lot of money to part with. Why not try one or two 1440p monitors, add a third if you need it?
A single 1440p is perfect for everything that I do. Shimians appear to be good for the money, but you might consider a different brand. Something more costly, but higher in quality.
Image quality all depends on the size of the monitor and how far you sit frrom it. I have a 24 inch 1920x1200 monitor that I sit about 2-4 feet from depending on what I am doing. I cant really see the individual pixels unless I get within 2 feet and I have really good eyesight. A 4k monitor is WAY overkill unless you are going for a larger size, like a 40 inch TV or you have your face really freaking close to the screen.
I would recommend a 27"-30" 1440p monitor or 2560x1600 if you want more vertical. Monitor prices are kinda crazy high in the states for some reason. We do seem to get everything else cheaper. I can get a 2560x1440 monitor for less than $300 in south korea (where I am living now).
If you got a thousand bucks, then I would probably spend it on something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2RY1DK9756
and get a second lower res monitor on the side.. not for gaming, but just for watching movies while doing other stuff, of if you work/study at the computer a lot.
If you really want multi-monitor gaming then consider three of these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236313
remember that you gotta have a lot of graphical power and video memory to power these things for gaming.. Not sure that you got right now.. or what you are getting...
Well the truth is that's what i was planning on doing if i went the 1440p. get 2 now and a third later.
I know Logan said he bought some shimians or was planning to. Maybe he can chime in on their quality.
He certainly endorses those panels. Check out the video review of the Shimian.
If I am honest, since you're probably only going to game on a single panel, you should probably get one 1440p panel and two 1080p panels. That will enable you to allocate your budget a higher quality 1440p panel.

I personally would go for the 4k monitor. Its more future-proof than the other 3 monitors.
Also, you will need graphic card(s) to support either of those monitor setups since they are really demanding.
