No experience with the first hand but some sound like they can be good like the Goophones http://www.engadget.com/2014/02/26/goophone-s5-galaxy-knock-off/ but other are jst regular bad phones, one thing though if you like custom ROMs, support for knockoffs is very limited.
I definitely got experience with chinese phones and I have to say, that you really, really, really have to be careful when picking one.
Mostly it's a question of the manufactoring factory ... you can't just differenciate just by brand or anything like that (ok .. the well known brands are quite stable).
But just to make a few recommendations based on stable brands:
Any ... really any phone from Xiaomi
They use MIUI, which is a highly customized form of android that brings the simplicity of ios on an seriously good working android platform. In my opinion the best os worldwide, with weekly updates, tons of features and ... yeah, like I said, everything is just working fine at all times.
Right now you can get some really cheap but still quality phones from them for like 150-200 bucks (we just got euros around here, so price measurement by me may be biased a lot XD)
But if you want nothing but pure raw power, go with the MI-series ... especially the MI3
I had one for testing and I was just blown away - freaking fast and reliable.
But, If you need something like big screen or small screen .... just look around in their portfolio and I'm sure that there will be a phone which will satisfy you.
Another alternative would be Meizu .. extremly high quality phones with Flyme-UI (not stock android)
I guess the highest quality phones ever made ... and yes ... even better than the apple.
It also was a mind-blowing phone experience.
As well as with xiaomi - just go with the newest model (MX3 I guess) and you will be good to go for at least the next 3 years.
Aside from that, if you really want that stock android you can go with a FAEA F2 .... freaking strong phone but in my opinion not far as good as a Xiaomi or Meizu.
Aside from that I just got the Nexus - google phone - cheap - works (mostly) .... everything else is far away from considering in my Opinion and I had really a lot of cool phones already in testing.
Of course there were sone good ones, especially by the times of the Mediatek quad-cores and right now octa cores.
But what can really be noticed is a significant dropdown in the quality of really cheap chinese Phones.
So I just recommend going with the brands that I showed you because I had the BEST direct experience with them (still using an old Xiaomi Mi2a which gets really hard to find these days)
(just for putting it somewhere: please excuse my sometimes pretty bad engish ... normally I write my reviews and stuff in german ... so please be gentle with me :))
