I was just wondering how many other people when we were kids playing video games scared the crap out of us. Here's mine.
Halo Combat Evolved: 343 Guilty Spark when meeting The Flood scared the living sh!t out of me and every level after it still could not be able to play that level now poor marines.
Sudeki: Seeing Talos and him killing a someone in a cutscene still a bit scary now back then DEAR GOD.
those were the two i know of the top of my head I just wanna hear others to share their experiences when they were kids that frighten them in the past or still now.
F.E.A.R. Numerous times in F.E.A.R, and especially the last half hour with Alma on the loose, and I played it last year. Just horrible lol. I also remember Resident Evil 4 on the ps2 being a bit scary at times back when I was a kid, particularly the blind enemies with metal blades attached to their arms.
When I was about 7 or 8 my dad accidentally bought me Silent Hill 2 for the Playstation 2. That game scared the shit out of me but, I didn't tell him because if I did he would have returned it and got me some bullshit game. I played through the whole game and love the franchise now.
This was the scariest part for me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUDcSeUvkOw
Alien Trilogy on PS1. I found the start of the game to be particularly frightening, as I felt quite vulnerable with the under powered pistol. The face huggers running around and jumping at the screen probably started my arachnophobia. I wasn't fond of the larger aliens, either. They would often appear on the radar before you could see them. Viewing a number of enemies closing in on you, not knowing if they were above or below, added to the terror. Though, I did get better at the game and completed it from start to finish.
I think I still remember the cheat for god mode and infinite ammo!
As a 4 years old child playing Ocarina of time, I was terrified by the Stalchilds (the skeletons) that would come out of the ground at night in Hyrule field, so I stayed in Kokiri forest for about 2 months.
For me, AvP 1999, and system shock 2, while less of your typical horror jump crap it was more the atmosphere of dread. I specifically remember trying to keep playing without breaks for a vain hope that I actually could save some of the crew.
Halo: Combat Evolved was one, for the obvious fact being the Flood. I tried to play it a couple of years ago again (being 16) but barely managed to get by because I was so stressed out. Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast was like that for me as well, because of that one level with the caves and the crystals. Basically, anything that had anything small and jumpy and killy frightened the living daylights out of me.
I still have anxiety sometimes when I try to play those games. Movies like this are like this too. Sweeney Todd was pretty horrific because of all the blood, and I still shiver whenever I watch it. On the other hand, I can watch something like Total Recall (the old version) and be fine. Darn memories.
This, I think the worst part was the fmvs that played when you got killed by the facehuggers. There wasn't much realistic gore because of the graphics back then so the idea of using prerendered vids to bump up the graphics and show you the horror of what had just become of your character was brilliantly terrifying.
Alien Trilogy, Silent Hill and Resident Evil were the first games that I remember actually scaring me everything that came before them the graphics just weren't up to scratch yet to be immersive.
Forgot to mention the first time but just remembered. Nocturne was an awesome resident evil 1/2 style game with the filthy Italian horror style. Definitely deserves a HD remake, though not in the fixed cam angles though; also, a shame the actor who voiced, "The Stranger" had passed away.
