due to peer pressure... i need to get a new phone.
i currently use an old blackberry curve from 2009/2010. it works, but clients have started to remark on it too much. time for an upgrade.
i dislike large phones so my options are limited to small ones. Shortlist so far:
- latest iPhone (best looking imo)
- samsung s4 mini
- htc mini (a bit tall)
- blackberry Q10 (will only get if work buys it)
Thoughts? Any others to add to the list? Which is the sexiest of them all?
P.S. it has to be available in black.
Well the next question is what you want to get out of it? And what networks are you limited to? It's hard to recommend a phone without knowing your constraints. I would personally go unlocked if it all possible, but thats me, give us a little more descriptions please!
international unlocked phone. i travel a lot.
i'll use it mostly for calls and email. size is a big issue for me. ideally i would like to be able to use the basic phone functions (calls, email & calendar/organiser) without giving out my credit card info.
secondary concerns:
games, video and such are not a priority for me. if i could edit .doc files it would be a bonus. as would the ability to view .xls and .ppt files. not a deal breaker though.
You could consider the Moto G which is 5.1 inches by 2.6 inches, it is a little bigger than an iPhone 4S. Here is the Moto G 16GB Global version LINK Also a 8GB Model with 4G LTE is coming out June 3rd if you don't mind waiting. LINK
Here is some detailed specs on the phone LINK
As for the Word/PowerPoint/Excel files you could use Kingston Office for free. Alternatively you could use Microsoft Office Mobile but you will need an Office 365 Subscription.
I enjoy my Moto G very much and purchased it back in December. It has not given me any problems and there is a minor bug with they keyboard that will cause it to stay open even if you exit and area where you want to enter text, or the keyboard will not show up until you try a couple of times. The phone only has 1GB of RAM so multitasking is not too great but phone still offers an enjoyable experience.
[EDIT] If you want something more powerful, you cold consider a device like the Nexus 5 which is also Globally unlocked by default LINK Unfortunately the phone may seen a little large to you, it is at 5.4 Inches by 2.7 inches.
Anybody have other suggestions?
You could also get the blackberry q5, it's a bit cheaper and a bit smaller than the q10, you can get them at http://store.shopblackberry.com/ globally unlocked and in black.
thanks guys. i've seen the Moto G. It's well sized compared to most of the newer phones.
i guess i have to figure out whether or not i want to go with android or stay with blackberry.
If you want to get things done, get a blackberry, you can play games on a bb10 device but don't know if many android games will work on a q-device but my z10 runs plenty of android apps. If you want to play with your phone, install new launchers, customize the crap out of it, then get the moto G.
Well, if you really want a world phone, the HTC One S, from T-Mobile has pentaband HSPA+ so you could use it world wide.
i ended up getting a samsung s4 mini LTE as the shop didn't have the 4g/lte version of the moto g. the samsung ended up costing me $340 which isn't too bad i suppose ... work will probably issue me a blackberry q10 next month as well so the s4 will just be a personal phone.
thanks a lot for the advice. much appreciated.
Goodness! $340!? Wowsa, could buy a Nexus 5 with that amount of cash.
It was actually a good deal considering that my telecom company sells the Samsung S4 mini for $465!
Phones are expensive here... I could have ordered from abroad but would pay circa $100 extra for shipping.
