Hi! Sorry for the incorrect information online. The pricing info is from a distributor in Bulgaria. It should be at least $2000 cheaper in the USA. The official distributor in the USA is Phoenics Electronics (http://www.phoenicselectronics.com) but they haven’t listed our ThunderX2 products yet. I will follow this up with them.

Historically in datacenters there’s been lots of use cases where you just need the ram or io bandwidth and don’t need a lot of hard compute. CPU utilization is usually abysmal in a datacenter environment. Soooo if some hard compute stuff is slower and some database/fileserver workload is near performance wise for less money in similar rack volume - great!

Now, where it gets interesting is, how much money you end up spending to pay humans to optimize their ‘hard compute’ problems for a slower platform vs. how much you save on using that platform in the first place.
