Check my Threadripper 7980X Build

I have no idea what I’m doing so I would appreciate any feedback on my parts selection for my 7980X build before I start buying items. This will be a 24/7 number crunching system, mostly running a Java software package (but also some python work). I only need basic graphics support.

Specifically, will 2 x 64 memory sticks work (or do I need to fill all the slots)?

Is my MOBO compatible with my case?

Anything I’m missing?

Thanks!

That motherboard is CEB form factor, which is slightly wider than ATX. It’s not going to fit in a micro-ATX case.

You can populate 1, 2, or all 4 of the memory slots according to the manual (which also tells you which of the slots to use.) The drawback of using fewer than 4 modules is you’re sacrificing memory bandwidth. Depending on your application, this may or may not matter.

If you’re leaving slots empty for future expansion, you’ll want to consider future availability of matching DIMMs. The manual recommends that all modules are same vendor, same version, same date code, “for an optimum compatibility.”

I appreciate the response. If my workflow unfolds as planned there should be complete CPU saturation and relatively infrequent RAM activity, but I should think about this more.

Does this Gamdias case make sense?
Gamdias NESO P1, Black, Panoramic Tempered Glass ATX, Dual Chamber, Trapezoid Shaped

Yes that one should fit the motherboard. The TRX50 SAGE is 28 cm wide, and this case supports boards up to 31 cm.
