Cheap steam gaming pc

Hey I'm looking to build a computer for my nephew and I was wondering if this setup all goes together nicely

You linked to an empty list.

Try this one. Sorry

Look's fine. I would swap out that harddrive for a 120GB SSD.

Replace that Heatsink with a Hyper 212 Evo. You also won't need that extra thermal paste as the Evo comes with a tube worth several applications.

Thanks it said my case wasn't compatible so I changed it to a bigger one I think. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/jXB4bv
Do you think the new one will fit everything?

The 860k is a bit faster per core than the FX chips I believe, so it'll be slightly better for gaming, the GPU will be way faster as well.

I'd definitely spend the extra cash to step up to this, maybe swap the PSU for the one in your build to get it down a bit, but modularity is nice.

You could also get a cheaper motherboard, but this one should be a decent overclocker

There are some 4gb video cards on pcpartpicker.com for under $100. Would any of those be worth anything?

Also the cpu in the original on said 6 core. Wouldn't that be better? I don't know anything about it I was just wondering.

Most games use 2-4 cores at most, so you want a few faster cores, rather than more cores for most games.

If it was a streaming build, or video editing, then the 6-8 core would be better.

As for the 4gb cards under 100 bucks, can ya link em? Are they just used 7850s?

I just looked in what was compatible but I'll go get a link

The 740 is pretty old I think, and I didn't even know they made 4GB versions of the 250

but a 250 is not going to be able to fully utilize 4gbs of VRAM, so ya, probably not worth it really, the 380 is just going to be much faster for 80 more, there's even 4gbs versions of it for 20 more than that atm.

What kinda games are going to running on the machine? is it just a few multiplayer ones?

It's for my nephew and at the moment all he plays is garys mod and some galaxy game that will barely run on the laptop he's using. I would like for him to be able to do some multi player but I'm trying to keep the price as low as possible

You could always go with an APU rig, which should be pretty well off for a while, and it'll be a tiny low power low heat ITX system.

The motherboard also includes bluetooth/wifi

The PSU is that high because a GPU can always be thrown in later, but the build could be under $350 if it were micro ATX

I think I'll just go with the first one you suggested. I want it to last him for a while

On that first build you sent do you not need a cpu cooler

I figure even an i3 would last a bit longer for gaming than the 860k. 4GB cards at that price range won't really make a difference. They don't have the throughput to make use of it.

If you wanted to go cheaper the 750ti 2GB models can be pretty cheap nowadays. I love the Tesseract case. I will continue to say it's the best case you can buy at under $60.

Most CPUs come with stock coolers that'll work fine

@Leon_the_Loner
That is another option

But that board doesn't have USB 3.0 headers, so the ports on the front of the case can't be used

Aye, he could go with either. He'd have to shell out extra for a mobo with headers. I was prioritizing cost.
