Cheap programmable USB key consoles/pads

I have been looking for a little panel to sit next to my keyboard to bind stuff to. Something like this but cheaper . The only stuff can find is for music making or flight simmers nothing generic. Anyone found stuff that fits this description or do i have to make my own (and would that be hard)?

You could just buy a USB number pad and use any old program you find on google to rebind it

Making your own might not be too bad the Teensy USB dev board would be a place to start.
