exaly, im pretty sure it doesnt.
i checked most am1 boards i could find, non of them list ECC support
dont trust on pcpartpicker part compatability so much at least this dude was able to get it working.
yeah but i dont use partpicker as a source.
The system "might" boot with ECC memory, but that does not mean that you can use error correcting.
Still i would not take the risk.
found something on overclock.net about this. http://www.overclock.net/t/1495837/ecc-works-on-am1
yeah if i was in his shoes yeah i would save and pony up for a trouble free experience.
That is exaly not a bad idea.

$548.90 AUD....... yeah might as well go for this combo.
The price ratio is insane for ECC RAM. Sorry if I somehow offended you??? I never knew how long you kept up with something reflected your knowledge. If that were case I would be able to rewrite the entire Linux kernel from scratch.
Um you didn't offend me, i truly meant treat me like a luddite. I've not been part of business server/ISP management since 2002 and my last major non gamer build was in 1999. It got to stressful i was working 90+ hour a week.
So a luddite as in make it simple so i can do the research or understand what your are saying.
I thank you for your help.
Again, I was working for a friends ISP back in the days of dial up then ADSL 1 roll over, we couldn't afford many support staff so I did a 90 day week once (as in no days off for 90 days) 10 to 14 hours a day... I just burned out. So from then on I let all my research into server systems and linux to my friends, unfortunately the one i would normal ask has been working so hard rolling out a 3 site 300 user setup with PHD's in environmental science with noooo understanding of IT so talking tek with him is a no no. Its games and jokes with him ATM or my phone calls will get uncomfortable and end early =P
lol i rant... its just me. So yes, i ment to say i am 16 years out of touch with server systems and any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
You mentioned the price ratio for ECC, to give a little more info I am wanting to do more then design and personal use I will be trying to get investors etc. So that was why I wanted it to be more fail safe, even if it costed more.
but looking the price is way way more then i was expecting, I may be able to get the extra initial investment but.... any advice recommends, pointers to researching the topic are always appreciated.
PPS - the end of life tech others have mentioned I will be looking into as well. St least perhaps as a hold over till i can get more $.
And I thank every one here for their help
I'm unsure of the prices where you live, but an FX6300 with 16gb of non ECC RAM should get the job done. Don't get me wrong, ECC is a great fail safe, but it's not worth the price premium.
Asus states ECC unbuffered support for their AM3+ boards.
But i dont have ECC dimms myself laying arround to test it out, unfortunatly.
The thing is that only Asus boards have ecc support on their spec list.
And thats a bit suspicious for me
Uhm, question: What do you want to do with the ECC-RAM pc? A freenas box?
You could look into used server hardware. I've read a thread in this forum about an user finding some quad-core Xeons on ebay (same gen as the first i7s) for 40 bucks. There decomissioned server boards and CPUs around, as well as decom. DDR3 ECC memory.
yeah unfortunately my room mate quit his job with the health department they used to sell there old xeon servers for cheeeeep. But that may be an idea, i'll chase him up about any friends that still work there.
I want a linux box NAS/Server for a small business I am currently trying to get funding for. While in the office I want to use it to design web front ends, a mobile app and Arduino code. But I want it to be accessible while I am out of state.
I am hoping to do a little video and audio encoding on it but i may use my i5 system for that.
yeah in my research that was making me a little uncomfortable.
oh i forgot to mention a little CAD work too
Want to bump this topic.
I realize I need 2 pc's one with the hardware for CAD, Rendering and etc that is easy to research, I will probably just go with the new gen i7. (Unless some one can suggest something different)
The ECC / NAS box is what I will be needing for the home server side of things.
Can anyone recommend a few places in Australia to buy new or used, (or if there are issues with buying used NAS / ECC equipment any advice there to.) as this will be my first proper foray into a business with investors I want redundancy and etc. I still don't want to spend a lot on this hardware. (The budget has increased though around the 1000 to 1600 dollar mark, can push that up if the difference if worth it)
Someone mentioned a mobo with embedded cpu
I know my motherboard has either ECC compatibility or emulation. One of the two. It's an old AM3 board though so I'm not sure if you'd want that for a modern system.
