I would be getting a desktop, but I remembered I need a laptop for college so I thought kill two birds with one stone. It doesn't have to be high end. Try to keep it under $1,200. I plan to play Battlefield 4, Far Cry 3, Skyrim, and Dark Souls 2.
Since your going to collage you probably want a laptop that is thin and light. This asus is 6 pounds.

You understand that it has DDR3 for video card ram right?
If you can purchase it today, I would highly recommend the Lenovo Y50 (59426157).
It fits perfectly into your budget and should play all those games flawlessly at Med-High settings. You should get amazing battery life as well because of the GTX 860M, which is built on the power-efficient Maxwell architecture.
A lot of people have been recommending this and might go with it

pretty much what I was going to recommend...Love dem Lenovo laptops. They look awesome and perform awesome.
Apparently it doesn't make that much off a difference:

At least not for gaming, i think that the difference in productivity for cuda or opencl is going to be much bigger.
