I got inspired by the Thecus NAS with backup battery that Wendell reviewed but I want to run some regular linux distro and maybe be a step up in hardware but with a similar form factor. I found some server hardware from Supermicro that can take a UPS battery but it's either rack or large tower form factor.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone has successfully run Debian or Ubuntu on a Thecus with graceful shutdown working?
Or have you seen similar alternatives but closer to the form factor of a 5 bay Thecus.
