Chances of recieving a knock off motherboard?

My new Maximus Gene-Z mATX motherboard doesn't have the start and reset button soldered on at the bottom... Should I be worried? Is there a chance I received a knock off fake version? ( i know... but you never know...)

It came in a blank white box, and the driver CD was a burnt copy with an asus driver sticker on it, and the back plate feels like it's made of a very flimsy metal material..

Oh and it doesn't have that little red button to the right of the DIMMs.. ( no idea what the red button is...)

Where did you buy it from? That sounds a bit dodgy... Did it have warranty information and instruction manual etc.?

No warranty info and no instruction manual... I bought it off of amazon.com

From Amazon or a "Amazon Associates" on Amazon.com? Got a link to what you paid for, or photos of the board?

They appear to be soldered as normal in this photo

But would probubly be more helpful if someone who actuly has the MOBO chimes in.

Oh ok. I haven't used Amazon (Don't think I can from Australia), but I'm pretty sure Amazon would be an official reseller of Asus. I would give them a call and ask about it, ask if you could exchange it too if you're missing things off the board.... Although its strange that they would even have something like that, because a company as big as them wouldn't be dodgying things up I doubt, and, unless it's a review model or something (maybe), Asus wouldn't be sending things out like that...I'm not really sure though, see what others think first, try getting onto Amazon though, and if they say they can't help, I'd try going directly to Asus...

Call JJ!

Amazon is a market place, not everything sold there is "fulfilled" by Amazon themselves.

ah ok, yeah, wasn't sure whether it was or not...

Well, it definitely shouldn't come in a plain white box. I do have an ROG motherboard.

Yep, thats why I asked for a link, as its easy to get caught out and buy a used/refurbished product from a Amazon Affiliate.

My poor mother did that just last month; she thought she was buying a new HTC phone from Amazon in the UK that ended up being refurbed and apparently sent (never showed up) from HongKong.

Luckily Amazon are really good with there dispute process and got refunded right way.

It could be a refurb, if you bought it cheap. That doesn't explain the burnt CD.

It would be far more reassuring to just send it back.

Amazon affiliate was my immediate thought. I learnt all manner of people can post new and used items on that website recently, when I was researching one of my latest builds.

It is pretty easy to get caught-out. If the Amazon warehouse has no inventory, it will go to an affiliate by default. It isn't always clear.

I'd sent that back instantly dont even think about it send it back

Yeah dont use it if you think it knockoff it could ruin all your other parts.
