Case upgrade

Hi Guy's,

I am getting a bunch of pc upgrades and I am looking to upgrade my case from my current Zalman z3 Plus, which I like, but I am looking for something more premium.

I am currently looking at a used (amazon warehouse) Corsair 780t, a corsair vengeance c70, and a coolermaster mastercase pro 5. I do not like full tempered glass side panels.

Thanks for the help

What are some features you'd like to have? Silencing, radiator support, RGB LEDs, big windows, size, hard drive mounts, 5.25" bays, and stuff like that?

As for the ones you've specifically mentioned, I've owned a Corsair C70 before and I loved it, but it was kinda huge.

I have this case for my gaming setup. Its a decent case but theres a few things I dont like. The side panels are kind of flimsy and dont like to sit flush with the rest of the case, especially the right side where the cables are. If they press up against the panel at all it will bow out noticeably. If you use the built in fan controller, every time you turn the system off and back on it resets the fans to full. Its HUGE and I would only get it if you plan on doing a custom water setup otherwise even an EATX board looks small in the case. The 8 pin cpu power plug on my corsair CX600 just barely makes it around the back to the top of the mobo.

Otherwise its a great case, super easy to build in. The dust covers are easy to get to and clean. If you need to know anything specific just ask, I can take pictures if you want.

I don't find the c70 premium at all, like @w.meri said it's huge.
Also the power/reset switches are cheap.
And the side panel looks like ass.

At this point the c70 is very behind the times in case design buy it is purely about that military aesthetic.

The M case 5 has all the new bells and whistles but i find overall bland.

The 780t looks good but i dont know whats in it

This all pure opinion, feel free to disregard.

I would be looking for something quiet, with atleast 2 5.25 drive bays outfront, I would like a window but It will be at the side of my desk, not a really a fan of led's

In that case (kek) the c70 is out, it's filled with holes

and a full atx motherboard support

Sounds like the Fractal Design R5 is what you're looking for.

  • Silencing
  • 2x 5.25" external bays
  • Minimal frills
  • ATX

I'm not a huge fan of the R5... really boring aesthetic... it has it's place and is a nice case... just not my style.

I prefer a Phanteks, but that's my opinion. Cases are the most personal computer component (not peripheral) there is, it's the thing you'll be staring at most so make sure it's something you like.

I got to build my CAD computer for work and used the corsair air 540. I like that case a lot. My coworker who does CAD went for the carbide series 330R which is also really nice, and super quiet. If you dont mind the no window bit its a great quiet case. My brother got a phanteks p400s and its pretty slick too, no 5.25" bay though.

Cube is love

But also dusty as hell and massive

Yeah, I have my opinions on Fractal cases as well after my Node 605, but I figure the R5 doesn't have a 4.73 out of 5 average on Newegg for no reason.

I'm sorry...
F@ck R5... A lot of issues with this over praised thing...
Now I don't sorry...
Get Arc Midi R2... Added 2 extra fans, have 5x140 in total. All running at low speed - whisper quiet... It also have a fan controller, so if I want better cooling I just flip a switch...
Advantages: better airflow, better looks in my taste.
Disadvantages: if it had one extra fan mount on the bottom I would have had 7 fans in the case. Not really silence optimized, since there are no foam, but the quiet system doesn't depend on the case...
Other option is NZXT H440... I love that case. The only disadvantage is somehow restricted airflow...
I personally believe corsair cases are overpriced for what they give the consumer at the end of the day.
The best thing about Arc Midi R2 is, that it basically have the same layout as Z3 Plus with a lot more options for everything...

Positive pressure with intake on front only and after 8 months with it, not a spec of dust. Also smaller than my 780T by a long shot lol. still massive tho.

Eh everthing is dusty here in Ca

thanks for everything guy's and I have settled on the corsair Obsidian 450D

Good choice, looks like a nice case.

You basically got

Just with less space for hard drives, less customization options and no fan controller...

Being facetious though. 450D is a good case.

I am a big fan of Phanteks Enthoo Pro. The best thing imo about the case is that it is held together by screws rather then revits so if your into modding, its a good case for that

Choosing a case is something very personal.
It really is a matter of taste.

I personally use a NZXT Phantom 530 which is a really roomy case with allot of options for cooling.
However its allready an older case.
But NZXT also has some new models out, which might be worth looking at.
Quality wise most NZXT cases are pretty okay.
