Nah it s cool I hate it too, but there is content in them there hills.
like i allready said in the lounge.
I dont care at all to be honnest, i dont get why all those hypers crying about it.
Between the R5 look-a-like, and this, I'd be lying if I didn't feel like something was up. I don't think the VP of case labs would say something on facebook without really feeling like he was stolen from. We'll see how this plays out.
Watch the latest TechTalk (#79), there he talks a lot more about it and why he won't review Thermaltake products in the future.
This just can't agree with this "only so many ways" nonsense Josh is talking about. If it was like that then how come every renown case manufacturer has their own recognizable style? They all managed to make their cases look different. Why should Thermaltake get away with blatantly imitating someone else's design? And by design I don't mean gimmicks or certain features like PSU shrouds or hiding the HDDs and removing the 5.25" bays, but the exterior design.
Oh I did earlier, I was just saying that someone who is having their designs copied does not care at all.
I know Jay want nothing to do with them.
You mean Josh not caring about it? Not sure if his opinion is also the way Fractal Design sees it. Might be possible that they don't care because they know Thermaltake can't compete with their quality and people will still go for Fractal Design cases if they want this specific design.
Just added the latest episode because it has much more content about this topic than the one before that.
I would imagine that he would care if it effected them as he works for them as North America rep. But him not caring seem to me that he doe snot even see them as a problem. Interesting though that he also does not care because he figures it is just a matter of time anyway.
I think case labs are worried as their cases are SUPER expensive and here come ThermalTake with cheap very similar alternatives. A lot of people will be tempted to get the cheaper one with maybe lower quality.
I absolutely agree.
Wow that horse shit is well... Horse shit.
I'm not sure how they get away with calling this a premium product. When he opens the door, it wobbles so much it looks like it's going to fall off.
It's a cheap knock-off, so what... The annoying part is the ridiculous branding and people actually falling for it, comparing it to a product that's in a total different league.
I think they modeled the case after the guy presenting it. The small compartment resemble hits tits, stacked on top his huge gut.
It is a market. Someone is always trying make products cheaper, better and faster. Case labs should spend their time competing instead of complaining, IMO.
Linus made a really good point about this subject in a way:
He starts talking about the subject at the 1 Hour 10 minute and 30 second mark.
I agree, the probability of them creating a case so similar by coincidence makes that excuse seem like bs.
Also have to think about the quality. I've used thermaltake before and they're ok but you can bet money that the case labs stuff is going to be much higher quality and that is where they will still get their customers.
So I see a lot of people defending the case labs look alikes, okay fine then what about the Apogee block knock off? and the Fractal knock off? and the Li and Li knock off? Obviously there's only so much you can do to a case but we are talking about several products that are near identical! not one, not two, but SEVERAL PRODUCTS.
The Swiftech "knock offs" are most likely licensed products, hence why they are identical. They are supposed to be.
Possibly. I hadn't thought of that until JayzTwoCents mentioned that. I just find it hard to believe that aesthetically nothing could be changed to make it look a bit different. I dunno...
Actually its unclear whether that is a licensed copy or not because swiftech have licensed their stuff before
I know Logan doesn't give a shit as he thinks it is good news for the companies being copied, I however have to disagree, the image of a case is very much it's brand and if bigger companies like thermal take are permitted to so openly steal smaller companies brands then these smaller companies will start to disappear at we may loose a lot of innovation in the industry that has come from the likes of case labs.
