Hey guys! I was hoping to hear what kind of careers I could get into as a computer science or computer engineering major. I'm currently a freshmen biology major at a top engineering school in the United States. Before college I always wanted to go to med school, but I am currently having thoughts of switching to a computer science or computer engineering major because of my love for computers and technology.
I was hoping you guys could give me insight on what type of career I could expect with a degree, type of work I would be doing, job security, etc. Figured you guys would have experience and have some good knowledge of the industry. Thanks!
I'm majoring in computer engineering because if you can do comp engineering, you're qualified to do computer science. It's like a paramedic vs a specialist doctor.
I was thinking computer engineering because from my understanding that's more of working with hardware where computer science is more creating software/programs etc? Working with/creating hardware sounds more exciting to me honestly.
I'm currently a senior at a small university majoring in electrical and computer engineering and one thing I've noticed is that there is no shortage in opportunities. I was looking for an internship, GE immediately picked me up. I was interested in doing some undergrad research, I've done two years of the HASP project and am now team lead on a USIP project. I live in Western PA and the only thing limited here is my time... and broadband
Yeah math and physics aren't a problem for me. One thing I was worried about is job security? With IT it seems you can move around quite a bit. There's a lot of opportunities near me, I live in NC so there's SAS and IBM relatively close by.
These jobs are in high demand. Computer engineering will focus more on hardware, so if that's what you're after this sounds like a perfect fit for you.
