Card for 1440p

I have been mulling over if I really want to drop the money on a 780Ti in my next build, and was wondering what you guys think? Should I go for the raw power, or is there another more cost effective way to get decent framerates at 1440p?

Most 1440p monitors are 60Hz, as you might know. There are a handful of cards that will achieve that 60FPS/Hz wall in most games. The R9 290 or GTX 780 are a good place to start.

You might consider an R9 280x or 770. They are pretty capable at 1440p. Though, they might not hit 60FPS without some compromise on textures, certainly post processing.

If you got the cash, the 780ti is warranted in a good number of games. The price/performance is not particularly favourable. Personally, I would grab an R9 290 and save a good chunk of change. It's better to go for price/performance and upgrade every other generation, in my opinion.

Yeah, the rig I have right now is running on almost 4 years. x6 1070T and dual 6870s. Any kind of video upgrade will be boss for it. I was kinda thinking about 770. I have been using all AMD for my last 3 builds so I kinda wanna jump to the other side for a build or two.

i would go with the R9-290, for 1440P. its the best bang for buck gpu. in the highend market.

Ironically enough, I started looking at 290x, all on an ITX board. I plan on waiting a while to do my build sometime early next year, so I can afford to buy one of the Lian-Li DK-02x Desk/Case. That way I can kill two birds with one stone and have my current rig running in the desk along with the itx one. Sounds like a win win in my book.

Hi! I just wanted to let you know that I run pretty much all of my games at max graphics on my 1440p monitor with only a 680. This includes games like Battlefield 3, Hitman Absolution, and etc (not too many newer gen games because I'm in college and I'm poor lol). The only game that I have to turn the settings down is in Metro: Last Light and its not even to an unbearable point, if I remember correctly, it's set at medium or high. I think that a 770 should be enough for your needs, but if you can afford it I would go with a 780 because I feel like it's at a really nice price spot for its performance. However, I don't know how these cards fair against the AMD selections because I haven't really been keeping up with tech because of school (shame on me!). Anyways, I hope this helps you in your decision! Also, if you need to know the rest of my system specs then they're on my profile!

I love my ASUS 290x. It performs amazingly at 1440p. I manage framerates of 100+ most of the time in BF4.

The 290 non X seems to be a little better value for money and performs quite similarly I chose the 290x because I wanted to spend as much as I could for every last FPS/KH.

The 780ti on the other hand is indisputably the best performing single GPU graphics card available but it does cost a fair bit more.

Really what it comes down to is how much you care about price/performance. The 290 is the best most cost effective card followed by the 290X then the 780ti make your deductions from that. Feel free to ask any questions about the 290x as it's the only one I have personally used.

The 290 series AMD cards perform very well at 1440p. The benchmarks at higher resolutions has AMD cards almost neck and neck with the 780 and 780ti. The 290/290x were MADE for 1440p/4k hence their sometimes disappointing 1080p performance. Just thought I would enlighten you a bit seeing as I'm a 290x guy. :P
