After upgrading from ubuntu-gnome 14.04 to ubuntu-gnome 15.04, I am unable to login. The os boots up properly, but when it gets to the login screen, there are no users to click on. I have an nvidia gtx 660, with the nvidia xserver.
What happens if you click on "not listed", type in your user name manually and try to login?
Did you try connect from the alt+ctr+f1?
yeah. It seemed like there were some errors there though. But I'm pretty sure they were there before I updated.
can you boot to an older kernel. If it boots good on the older kernel then uninstall that kernel, clean the FS and reinstall the kernel.
i did update the kernel, prior to upgrading to 15.04. How would I boot to an old kernel?
When you hit your GRUB menu when booting there should be the Default Kernel you are booting into highlighted, if you hit the down arrow you can select a different kernel to boot from if you have one. Everyone normally has at least 2 other kernels.
You may have to hit a key to see the menu like del, or a F key.
Hey it worked! Apparently all I had to do was boot to a kernel with "(upstart)" at the end of its name. Both of my kernels work as long as I do that version of it. Thanks for the help!
No problem, Glad to have been of help.
