I'm running Ubuntu Gnome 15.04 and I can't get Ubuntu to work. I've tried to get it running a few different ways, but I've not been able to. If anyone knows how to, please let me know.
What exactly do you mean? According to the steam store page for Warframe, Linux is not supported for the game
If Linux was supported you would see a penguin by the buy/install button. Are you VMing Windows or something?
I know, you can get a lot of games to run on Ubuntu even if it is not supported. That is how I have Starcraft 2 running, and a few other games.
So you're saying you've exhausted the wine configurations and the playonlinux routes?
Tried both, with the wine one, it did not work, it is not on play on linux.
I haven't looked into the architecture of any of these games, but maybe it's one particular driver that's usually not found in linux. Maybe you could start by looking into what games are built on the same graphics engine and if they've been made to work on Linux? Otherwise, I think some level of wine would need to be involved for the .exes but I'm no expert.
it would help if you paste your terminal output of the error you are getting
I've somewhat successfully played warframe on linux under wine, but it was a pain in the ass, and there was a game-breaking bug that I couldn't fix: some parts of the levels would render pitch black, sometimes whole rooms. Given the randomized nature of the levels it got pretty annoying pretty fast.
It's OK if you just want to log in to feed your dog or check on the production/dojo, but not playable enough to go on grind sessions with SA Goons.
EDIT: I just realised that post I made was a year ago. Maybe now it should work?
I remember I used an x86 PlayOnLinux bottle with dxfullsetup but sometimes it wouldn't take the dx install and I had to tinker a lot to get it working again.
I hope that works, going to follow it. My brother has been wanting to play it with me, but he runs windows, I run Ubuntu. I do hope I can get it to work.
I just started working on it, then I found out the error I was getting the first time. The output is:
noburt@noburt-desktop:~$ winetricks d3dx9 xact
You are using a 64-bit WINEPREFIX. If you encounter problems, please retest in a clean 32-bit WINEPREFIX before reporting a bug.
Executing w_do_call d3dx9
Executing load_d3dx9
Executing mkdir -p /home/noburt/.cache/winetricks/directx9
mkdir: cannot create directory ‘/home/noburt/.cache/winetricks/directx9’: Permission denied
Note: command 'mkdir -p /home/noburt/.cache/winetricks/directx9' returned status 1. Aborting.
Running as sudo does not fix it, if you know how to, that'd be great.
well after you do get it to work feel free to add me
