Can't enable freesync

So finally got a displayport for my lg 29um67 monitor. My system has an r9 270 and I already have freesync enabled through the monitor settings. However in the new radeon settings the freesync option is grayed out and says freesync not supported. This is annoying the crap out of me because everything seems pretty much set for freesync to work. I already tried re-plugging my displayport, resetting the monitor settings, and reinstalling amd drivers but to no avail. Need help to get this working as freesync was one of the main reasons I bought this monitor.

I thought the R9 270 didn't support freesync, or had "limited support" for it? If they didn't change that with some newer driver releases then that would be your problem.

edit: yeah, that's a list of the freesync compatible GPUs: http://www.amd.com/en-us/innovations/software-technologies/technologies-gaming/freesync (under the products tab)
The 280(x) and 270(x) don't support it.

Unsupported on that gpu as of right now. Dont expect it either. Given the GPU is not a high end one I doubt AMD will invest the time in getting it working.

Well that's unbelievable disappointing. Guess I'll have to wait until I can buy a 380x.

I'm pretty sure it just flat out doesn't work because those cards are based on older chips that simply don't support the newest DisplayPort standard. There's nothing that AMD can do software wise in that case, at least as far as I understand it.

They can do some timing trickery of target FPS control but yeah not much

Keep an eye for used Sapphire 290's, I feel like no one really gave a shit about that card before, and now with those 300 series rebrands it should be similarly cheap "7950" card. I dont think this is even the end for its rebrand variants. :D

Bought myself first 290 Tri-X OC from release for 400 and few months later I managed to pick second one for 350.
..that was two years ago, and I sold them both for 200 and 150 as I wanted Fury Tri-X. :DDDDD

270X does not support freesync indeed.
Its basicly the same card as a 7870 pitcarn.
Same sounts for the R7-370 (X)

The R9-280 / 280X are the same as the 7950 / 7970 Tahiti cards.
THey also dont support freesync.

R9-285 / R9-380 and R9-380X are Tonga based gpu´s,
and do support freesync.

Hawai / Grenada based cards, 290 / 290X / 390 / 390X all support freesync.
