Ok so here's the situation, got myself a new PC after buying a Ps4 and regretting it immensely. Plugged my PC on my 40" TV. All is well until, well, i want to go back to a desk, with a monitor, sitting to close like when i was playing on the Amiga.
But now, scrolling trough all the type forms and price range going from website to website, I'm not sure what kind of monitor would suit my needs.
I'm not a big hardcore fps or Rts gamer, I'm not aiming at competition or anything, i just want a monitor that will do justice to my 1200k rig and give me a nice colorful fast screen to look at in my man cave!
27" seems too big for less than a foot distance from the screen, and i don't really have a price range, i really just don't want it to be less than awesome :)
Well there are 2 main types of monitors currently, TN and IPS. Here are the differences:
TN have less input lag, and can have higher refresh rates. 1ms or 2ms TN panels have the least input lag of all modern monitors. Some have refresh rates as high as 240hz although, 120hz or 144hz are the usual top end that can be acquired for less then $500. They lack the stunning viewing angles and accurate color reproduction of IPS panels.
IPS these panels have stunning viewing angles and amazing color reproduction. You can look at an IPS panel from any angle and have no color shift. The colors are as close as possible to real life without going to a weird IPS+ technology that has input lag that is just disgusting to use and $1000+ price tags. IPS panels lack the high refresh rate options and have a slightly longer input time. Still very usable and not distracting.

You mentioned that 27" may be too big for you. But maybe these might change your mind: https://teksyndicate.com/videos/korean-monitors-x-star-dp2710-led-multi-first-fsm-270yv-shimian-etc
27" 1440P IPS monitors that are overclockable. And cheap too compared to name brand models. Give it a look, you might like them.
