So a few weeks ago I tried linux, and its cool. But nothing ill use until it gains better compatibility. So when i was on windows I formatted the linux partition and combined it to back my windows partition. And apparently, this reallly messed up windows. I just restarted my computer and booted from the hard drive with windows like normal. But instead it takes me to a grub rescue console thing instead. I've tried everything. From booting from a live usb with linux and trying to fix it that way to attempting to repair the windows boot thing using the disk (None of this has worked) So ive turned to you great people who seem to be able to fix all of the problems with my completely unstable messed up computer. Just give me instructions and ill provide screenshots and feedback. (If you help me fix this you'll get a cookie because I really need to get back to gtaV)
If I understood correctly, you already used the windows installation media to enter the command prompt and entered the following commands :
bootrec.exe /FixMbr
bootrec.exe /FixBoot
?
Believe it or not this is the one thing I didn't do. Because nobody specified where exactly to type it. And yes this fixed my problem Thank you fine sir, your cookie will arrive at your doorstep soon.
I could take guesses at what happened but I can't make any Actual judgment because you WERE NOT SPECIFIC! What motherboard are you using? What verion of windows are you useing? What distro did you install? WHY DO PEOPLE NOT REALISE THAT THEY CANT JUST SAY I HAVE A PROBLEM FIX IT. CONTEXT IS IMPERATIVE. Also this thread should be moved to Linux help desk and you should add [Solved] to the title.
Great to hear it worked.
