After the update I now have to restart whatever application is playing media for it to switch top my default playback device. I have switching my playback device bound to a key because I do it very often (headphones and speakers) is there any way around this? Is this just me?
I uninstalled some generic usb DAC driver and it started working so if anyone else has this problem try uninstalling and reinstalling one of your sound drivers.
what do you mean like after updating Windows, your default music player got switched?
OP has multiple audio outputs. The problem was that when he changed the default audio playback device, apps kept using the previous one (for instance, kept playing on headphones even though he switched to speakers).
Sometimes applications will also bug out with this. Firefox was notoriously bad with this, up until a few versions back when they finally fixed it. Annoyed the living crap out of me, because I had to restart the browser any time I wanted to switch speakers.
Could this be driver related? I know on windows my motherboard has some background software that detects audio changes and does the appropriate switching.
Oh, thanks for clarifying. yeah I've had this issue with numerous applications. it's annoying definitely. as you mentioned it used to be there with firefox but it's been fixed. though his problem is a bit strange to me, cause the issue is there with gaming, no doubt about it. unless you have the option to swtich the audio outputs in-game. though for let's say a browser or in my case since I use Foobar as my primary music player. If I connect my headphones to my PC, it will not automatically switch to the headphones as the audio output. however if I use my headphones as my primary output and disconnect that, it will switch automatically to my primary monitor's speakers.
