Canadian PC build help

Hello, I about to start my 2nd build. Here are my specs so far:

 CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor

 CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12P SE2

 RAM: Kingston Predator Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2400 Memory

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3H-B3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

 Storage:

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive

SSD: Kingston SSDNow V200 Series 128GB 2.5" Solid State Disk

 Case: Cooler master HAF-XM (Black)

Sound Card: Asus Xonar DS 24-bit 192 KHz Sound Card

 GPU: N/A

 PSU: N/A

mouse & Keyboard: Zowie ec2 (Black), Razer Blackwidow ultimate stealth (Mouse+keyboard is about +$200)

 Monitor: Acer V243HAJbd 24.0" Monitor (1080p, 2ms responce time) (+$150)

I need some help choosnig a psu and gpu. I want to keep this system relatively inexpensive (700-$1100 excluding the mice, keyboard, and the monitor) I also want some suggestions on how i could bring down the price a bit. I want to keep the sound card and the SSD as well as a 7200 rpm HDD with 1tb or storage. I also want to keep a quad core intel i5. If you guys have any suggestions on how I could make this cheaper (Maybe changing the CPU or the CPU cooler, mobo, etc.) let me know. Also other things to note I live in canada so prices are diffrent here. I will be using this computer for gaming (Skyrim, Battlefield, all the modern games) and a little bit of video editing. Over clocking wise I might overclock a little bit but no major overclocks.

Thanks for your time!

Fellow Canadian here, too tired to help ya out right now, may consider it tomorrow morning if this thread is still empty.

Got a laugh when you asked if it could be made cheaper then listed almost every component as more or less unchangable. One thing you should do is lock down exactly how much you want to spend, becaues a $700 computer and a $1100 computer are two very different things. If you want to keep the i5, SSD, 1TB HDD, sound card etc, then your spending $1100 on this system, with those locked as requirements you're not really gonna go all that much lower.

Take a look at this:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/lMmf

I'm only showing you this as a point of reference what a $~700 system would look like, though this has been optimized for US market and not Canadian so it very well could cost a bit more.

So yeah, I may help you out in the morning if I'm up to it and this thread is still empty...

Yes, up here in the Great White North computer parts are a tad more expensive. If you look at the Newegg flyer today there are some great specials on. Here is the link.

Note the i5 3330 for $179.99. It is not a K series so if you don’t intend to overclock it is a great deal. The Cooler Master Silent Pro is on sale for your PSU as well. Anyway, check all this stuff out and have fun with your build eh.

Hmm, I guess I said I would help you.... Give me a few minutes.

Hello fellow Canadian! Have you checked directcanada.com ? They have awesome prices!

GPU: Recommend the Radeon 7870,7950, 7970. If your gonna be using apps that utilize CUDA like Adobe Premeir, go 660 Ti. 670, 680.

PSU: Check DirectCanada! They're selling a 750W 80+ Modular PSU( Antec) for $72! That's a steal IMHO. http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10370AC7487

Mobo: Again, check the site!  http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=16950BD9882&vpn=P8B75-M%20LE&manufacture=ASUS Asus Matx mobo with SATA3, USB3 and 2 PCI-E 3.0x16 slots for $70!!!

So you can go check it out. If your not sure if you trust this site, it's a sub-group of NCIX, which you probably know.

Cheers,

Z

Wow thanks guys! I never knew that this would get this big aof a responce! I Have one final question, people I know have been suggesting I get an ivy bridge rather than a sandy bridge cpu, my thoughts where the Intel Core i5-3470 or the Intel Core i5-3350P and could someone please explain to me what the 'p' means and why its so cheap?

The P means it doesn't have a GPU built in. All the same you'll want to go for the K models as it means they are unlocked which will assist in getting a solid OC out of the chips, unlike AMD, Intel locks the bulk of their CPUs to add an artificial way to crank up the prices of the chips that are unlocked.

Now some questions for you. Is there really a reason you want to keep the sound card? Do you have a really high end sound system you'll have this hooked up to? If not you'll never notice the difference, and even still it likely won't be that great a difference from the integrated.

I'm still considering making a build write up for you, have you locked down your price point (as stated earlier, 700-1100 is a world of difference) and is that before or after taxes, since us Canadians have to deal with a fair bit more in taxes than Americans. Hell you could even give me your postal code (or aprox) and I could have it calculate shipping costs as well.

Well Im not an expert, but if you want to save a little money, then get some slower RAM, as far as I know you wont benefit from 2400mhz, 1600 is fine..!

And if you arent going to get an unlocked CPU then the stock cooler is fine in my opinion. As for GPU (I dont know what price you are up to there so i apologize if this is over the budget) I would probably go for the 660ti or maybe 650ti if you dont have the money for the 660ti.. :)

and please dont get Razer, its expensive and it breakes. get a corsair k90 or logitech g710+, instead..

You should go for 7850 or 660ti, these are my suggestions that fits your rig.

Also with K I believe while under warranty Intel will replace any K chip that has been fried from overclocking. I believe Paul said this on NewEgg TV but haven't been able to confirm or deny this.
