Canadian AMD Build

Hello All,

after researching, testing different products, watching many reviews, i am ready to take the full step into building a new PC. At this moment i am running an 2007 office/standard home use computer which is near dead. It can not handle anything as it is only equipped with 4gbs of ram, and only has a 1.6 dual core pentium processor. The case is an extremely small HP case which has aboutley no air flow to talk about. My other PC is my I3 HP G42 laptop i got a few years ago for school so as you can see i am in need of a new Gaming machine badly.

Now after talking with alot of people and going through my buddy's PC i have decided to go with an AMD build over an Intel, mostly to do with cost asscotiation. Now im going to post up what i was thinking of building. The budget im trying to stick to is around $1000 CDN. If anyone has any suggestions or any helpful hints, these would be greatfuly appreciated.

Parts i have already accumulated are the Hard drives, extra fans and the OS and the disc drive ( which i am not a fan off using at all )

The List:

  • Motherboard: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
  • PSU: Corsair Enthusiast Series TX550M
  • GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 660 Superclocked
  • CPU: AMD Bulldozer FX-8150
  • Case: Bitfenix Shinobi XL White
  • CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212 plus
  • RAM: Kingston HyperX Blu Black Series 8GB

Total Cost:  $903.68
[HST 15% ((Nova Scotia Tax)), Shipping & Handling Included, Insurance Included]

That Mobo is wayy overkill, if you look around you canm find some nice deals and 5$ shippping at places like NCIX, they regularly have bundles with 3570K's and the mobo for about 320-380$ depending on the motherboard, which is right in your price range.

Trust me on this on look for deals, i got a full build with a 750 Watt bronze PSU, 7950, 3570k, 8GB DDR3, 128GB SSD, 1TB HDD, Define R4 ect... for CAD $1209 with tax and shipping, if you already have the OS HDD's and Fans for 1000 you should be able to get a 7950 and 3570k w Mobo bundle and still come within budget.

Also, unless your doing a lot of editing or plan on using a RAM Disk 16GB is to much.

I was able to fit a 7970 in the build!

Whenever you have some extra money lying around, I'd suggest adding a 120gb SSD like a Kingston HyperX 3K.

Thanks fr the input, i have changed a few things out. Check out the new list at the top.

your build is good for gaming, but the pc part picker build is well worth the extra $200 if you can afford it

Thanks, im busy changing parts and trying different combos seeing what would be my best bang for my buck

Now i was considering getting the 660 ti but i really cant decided on what GPU to get :/

660ti because your get waay more features and the gtx 660ti is a faster card than the 7950

Alright, now when it comes to a CPU i like both options the FX series gives me and the old Phenom gives me. I also heard its better to get the 8320 over the 8350?

this is my build i would expand stuff as you want i am going to build my pc within weeks http://pcpartpicker.com/ca/p/yjuy you could go with the amd fx 8320 or 8350

8320 has a slower clock speed (3.5 instead of 4GHz)... but is $30 cheaper, so later down the line you could pick up a good aftermarket cooler and overclock anyways

Since its been awhile i thought id revive this to state what i have finaly ordered. ABove in the list section is the final order, bought most the parts on sale on NCIX.ca. Once evrything arrives and iss assembled i will post up some pictures of what it all looks like togther.

Oh crap didnt see you ordered lol

Hellow fellow Canadian! I just built this one, and it kicks ass: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/BwkK

In benchmarks it will surpase your 8150, but yours will still be quite good. Your case makes me jealous though.

No problem bud, I would have got the 8350 if i would had had that little bit more cash :)

Yeah my case descion was the hardest, i took me almost a week to finaly get the right choice
