Hey guys,
I'm running a Radeon R7 260 2GB on Ubuntu 15.04. It was all sweet, with 4 screens running and some Gnome3 goodness going on.
Then my kernel got upgraded to 4.2 (4.2.0-14-generic
to be exact). Suddenly, GDM refuses to start, printing these error messages to VTY1:
[ 105.594712] [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* displayport link status failed
[ 105.594730] [drm:radeon_dp_link_train [radeon]] *ERROR* clock recovery failed
[ 610.197370] [drm:atombios_crtc_mode_fixup [radeon]] *ERROR* unable to allocate a PPLL
[ 610.197389] [drm:drm_crtc_helper_set_config [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* failed to set mode on [CRTC:33]
[ 610.233576] [drm:atombios_crtc_mode_fixup [radeon]] *ERROR* unable to allocate a PPLL
[ 610.233593] [drm:drm_crtc_helper_set_config [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* failed to set mode on [CRTC:35]
I installed and ran xfce4, but there is no longer any hardware acceleration (although compositioning still works). I miss my Gnome3, when it was on 3.19.0-22-generic
it ran beautifully... however now booting into that fails to start GDM as well, printing the same errors as above. It won't even turn on the 4K screen either.
So with the AMDGPU proprietary drivers baked into the kernel now, does that mean you can only run GCN1.2 cards (R9 295, R9 380x+ Pirate Islands) with kernel 4.2 now? My card is only a GCN1.1 (Sea Islands).
Anyone running a R2xx card on kernel 4.2 without issue?
