Do you know all the cpu's and motherboards etc... How do you memorise all of them? or is it just something that you learn over time?
all the ones that are out of course

In short, no.
I remember things by their numbers more than anything. Like I remember that consumer grade Intel CPUs follow a pattern like i3/5/7 ABCD(k/s) where A is the 'generation', B is what 'step' it is in that 'generation', C is kinda where it is in that 'step', D is usually the number 0, if there is a K at the end it can be overclocked, and if there is an S it is the lower power consumption version. So just by looking at the number I can figure out that the i5 4670k is above the i5 4430, but the i7 4770k is above the i5 4670k.
I have no clue about AMD, they can't seem to make up their minds or something about sensible numbering. The FX series seems to run with the first number being the number of cores and the following numbers running where it is in the lineup. The A series does something else.
As for motherboards, it's pretty much the bigger the number/letter the 'better'. Like the 990FX boards for AMD are 'better' than the 970 boards. The Z77 boards for Intel are 'better' than the H77 boards. Passed that I just look for what brands I like, whether the board is part of a named series, the review ratings for the board, and the price. Like I know Asus has the Maximus/ROG series boards which are their high end stuff, Gigabyte has their Sniper stuff, ASrock has the Fatality Killer, MSI has Power and Gaming, and I think EVGA at least used to have something.
i personaly learned it. Because of my interessts in hardware. especialy motherboards. and cpu´s. I like to build computers, and you learn alot. i allways search alot of information. Its all just somewhere stored in my brain, and i can´t get it out haha ☺ i allways search for alot of information about diffrent platforms,
So if you wanne know something about a cpu mobo combo just ask lol ☺
I took the time to learn. Read about different chipsets, learnt from other people and what they would recommend.
only i have to admit, my knowledge on AMD´s apu side, is a bit of lacking at the moment, i know the base things, but i have to admit, that apu never had my interessts.
i know about the new kaveri apu´s and the FM2+ socket A88x chipsetboard, upto 100W tdp for kaveri, but like i said it does not realy have my interessts. Unless people have specific questions about this, then i go dig into it.
whats so good about kaveri?
