Can you do a clean install from an 8.1 upgrade key?

Google keep giving me that how to upgrade from 8 to 8.1 dren or how to upgrade from an earlier os, but skips the question altogether. 
 
For my birthday (Today actually) I got a $100USD gift card for Bestbuy. Normal I shudder at that stores name but when getting a gift card how can I argue? Also it's software I shouldn't have to deal with them much. 

when looking my options were an OEM 8.1

So, I've done full installs on upgrade keys before but I'm not sure if 8.1 allows this, anyone know?

Well got the Pro pack and now I've had to have it exchanged because no, it's not a standard upgrade key with it, its an "add new features" key. 8.1 to 8.1 pro. 

There's the answer if anyone else is curious.

 

And I only had the gift certificate and maybe enough for taxes, that's it...
