Can you blow up your GPU this easily?

I'm following IT classes at school but my teacher isn't that smart and doesn't know a lot about computers.

We swapped the mouses of 2 computers at school once and we showed him that if i moved my mouse, the pointer on the screen the guy next te me moved and vice versa and we asked my teacher what was wrong. He looked clueless and the only thing he said was: "Have you tried rebooting them?"

So I think you understand why I don't take his word for most things he says.

Recently he told us that we should turn a computer and monitor off before connecting them to eachother, if we didn't do that the video card would most likely explode. I never heard that before so I was wondering if you really can blow up your video card by connecting your screen to it while your computer is on.

I don't know if the dvi vga spec is actually hot swappable but no it will not blow up your GPU and will be perfectly fine, the only sure fire way to blow up a GPU is to OC a 570 refrence design.

only thing that can mes up the graphic card is the staticelectricity, you can se it if you unplug your hdmi. But it wont blow up...

Thanks for the fast replies, turns out my teacher was wrong... again
